A workspace where a CA firm turns a GST notice into a reply, and every line of that reply points to the notice or the books.

Studio concept · not a client project

A studio concept: a fictional product we designed and built to show how we work. Not a client project.

A notice lands. The reply is due in days, and every figure in it has to hold up.

Paraph is a workspace we invented for a Pune CA firm, Ranade Joglekar & Associates. One of their clients, a Chakan auto-parts maker, has received a DRC-01: a summary of a show-cause notice saying the input tax credit claimed in its returns is higher than what its suppliers reported, by ₹18,46,320.

Today a junior reads the PDF, copies the figures into a sheet, hunts through the purchase register, and writes a reply in Word that the partner checks line by line. Paraph does the reading and the matching, and drafts a reply where nothing is said without a source. Each sentence carries a chip that opens the notice paragraph or the ledger rows it relies on.

The preparer, Nikhil Pawar, checks the draft and sends it to the partner, CA Meera Joglekar, who signs off. We designed the brand and the workflow, and built it as a working prototype. The client, the firm and every figure are fictional.

What it had to do
  1. 01

Read the notice the way a careful junior would: form, period, demand, dates.

  2. 02

Match every rupee of the allegation to the client's books before a word is written.

  3. 03

Cite every sentence, and count anything that has no source.

  4. 04

Keep the partner as the one who approves what goes out.

One matter, read, matched and drafted.

The Sahyadri Torqueworks matter, rebuilt from the prototype. The fields fill from the notice, the three ledger heads explain the full ₹18,46,320, and the reply writes itself with its citations. Hover or tap any chip to see what it rests on.

1
The notice proposes a demand of ₹18,46,320 for FY 2022-23 , alleging that ITC availed in GSTR-3B exceeds the ITC available in GSTR-2B . The difference is explained in full below.
2
₹11,92,400 relates to 37 invoices of Indrayani Alloys LLP , whose GSTR-1 for February and March 2023 was filed late. The same invoices appear in the noticee's GSTR-2B for April 2023 .
3
₹4,10,880 is IGST paid on imports under six Bills of Entry , reflected in the IMPG section of GSTR-2B. Annexure A compares only the B2B section .
4
The noticee accepts that ₹2,43,040 of credit is blocked and will pay it with interest through Form GST DRC-03 before the hearing .
The noticee therefore requests that the proposed demand of ₹16,03,280 be dropped.

Blue chips cite the notice. Green chips cite the client's books. The counter in the corner keeps a tally of anything said without a source, and the approve button stays dim until the draft is finished.

The reply draft on a laptop, close: a notice citation is hovered and a dark card quotes the notice paragraph, with the disputed amount highlighted.

Every line has a source

A chip after each claim. Hover it and the notice paragraph opens beneath it, quoted verbatim, with the figure it supports highlighted.

The notice page and the extracted fields side by side: the brief facts and the demand table highlighted in amber, the allegation field lit.

The notice, as it was read

Each field on the right keeps a highlight on the page where it was found. Click the allegation and the paragraph lights up again.

The whole workspace on a laptop: the notice, the extracted fields and matched ledger heads, and the finished reply draft.

Three columns, one matter

The notice on the left, what was found and matched in the middle, the reply on the right. One screen, the same order a CA works in.

It reads the notice before it writes a word.

The first job is reading. Paraph recovers the text layer, classifies the notice, matches the GSTIN to the client, then pulls out the six things a reply depends on. Each one keeps a highlight where it was found. Choose a field to see it on the page.
