Tamrapat College
A heritage college's website and student app, from the first admissions deadline to a seat held in the Reading Room.
A studio concept: a fictional product we designed and built to show how we work. Not a client project.
Two audiences, one building.
Tamrapat is a college we invented: founded in 1889 below the hill in Shivajinagar, basalt walls and sandstone arches, its charter engraved on a copper plate that gives it its name. An old institution like this usually has a website that is a noticeboard and an app that is a PDF timetable.
We designed for the two people who actually use them. The applicant and their family, who need one honest page on programmes, fees and deadlines, in Marathi as well as English. And the student already inside, who needs to know the room moved from G-08 to G-14, that the Reading Room has 37 seats free, and when the chai is ready.
We wrote the college, built its website and its student app as working prototypes, and gave both the same stone, paper and copper.
- 01
Feel like the campus: stone, paper and a serif with some age in it.
- 02
Put fees, seats and the next deadline on one admissions page.
- 03
Tell students what changed today, before they walk to the wrong room.
- 04
Turn the Reading Room queue into a seat you can hold from your phone.
A hill, a road, and an admissions page that answers.
The website, rebuilt here from its own tokens and copy. A photograph of the Main Building at 6:42 am, a countdown to Round 1, and a programme table with years, seats and fees in plain rupees.

of good questions.
An autonomous college of arts, sciences and commerce on 42 acres of basalt at the foot of the hill. Nine thousand students. One reading room that never quite empties.

Admissions 2027We read every essay, and every shortlisted applicant gets a conversation with two faculty members, not an entrance test.

Sunrise on the Main Building
The homepage opens on the east face at 6:42 am, the line in Cormorant, and the countdown to Round 1 on frosted glass.

Admissions, in basalt
The page turns dark when it gets serious. Six programmes, fees per year, and seven dates from applications open to the first day of term.

Today, in your pocket
The next class with its room change, the day as a strip, the Reading Room's busy hours, your held seat and your canteen token.
Hold a seat for ninety minutes.
The Reading Room has 212 seats and a queue at the door in exam weeks. In the app you see the west wing as it is laid out, three long teak tables with lamps, pick a free seat and hold it. Tap a green seat to try it.
